Rajnagar blessing of Renovated Community center and Presbytery

Our Bishop Cyprian Monis blessed the renovated Community center and a new presbytery at Rajnagar on 29 February 2020. 15 priests and about 600 people from the neighbouring parishes in Birbhum district joined Fr.Thomas Marandi, Priest-in-charge to pray and to join in the solemn celebration.
From 1980s Birbhum district was looked after by the Salesians of Calcutta Province from Joypur parish, near Muhammed Bazar. Fr. Cyriac, SDB, a pioneering Missionary built a small community hall at Khorna village for Holy Mass and catechism classes. In 2014 Rajnagar area was given to Asansol diocese to look after by the Salesians.
From 23 December 2014 Fr. Henry Rodrigues started to stay in a rented house at Borkonda village near Khorna. Friends of Jesus Sisters Rosa Marandi and Maloti Soren joined him for Evangelization ministry from 2015. From 2017 Fr.Thomsas Marandi is appointed to look after the area. He along with Sr. Maloti Hansda, FJ visits regularly villages for Small Christian Community meetings, to conduct prayer service and for faith formation, staying in the rented house. He has extended his Pastoral ministry to people living in adjoining Dumka diocese too
With this new presbytery, the priest will have a suitable place for residence. The Quasi-Parish is named St. Peter’s Mission. The land for the community hall and presbytery are donated by the Santhal villagers for Church purpose. With this initiative, many people will have a chance to know about Jesus Christ and to accept our faith, said Fr. Robert R. D’Souza, a pioneering Santhal Missionary. The village people also contributed generously with their labour for construction of the Presbytery.
The youth of the parish left no stone unturned to make the celebration solemn by welcome dance and a cultural program after the Eucharist. Fr. IP Sarto briefed about the history of the Mission and thanked the Salesian priests, Frs. Henry and Thomas and FJ Sisters for their ministry in Rajnagar. Fr. Thomas thanked all those who supported him for the construction and felicitated at the end of the Eucharist.
Bishop invited all the faithful to live witnessing life to be evangelizers in the area.
